Principles For Life #5

#5 > I will look for the good in all people and make them feel worthwhile.

As a martial arts instructor, I learned early in life that the way I treated and talked to my students made a difference to whether they became better martial artist & better people. As a parent & husband I was reinforced the same lessons. And for the last 20 years, I have seen the difference rule #5 has had on thousands of kids in our KickStart Kids program.

I want you to take a minute and go back to when someone made you feel inferior, useless, worthless or not worthy of something. Think of the negative impact it had on you, and for how long that negativity lasted.

Next, take a few more minutes to imagine how your life (at least in that period of time) would have been different if that person would have taken the time to find out about more about you. Or at the least, been nice and encouraging to you.

The truth is, we all need for someone to help us find a reason to feel good about ourselves in one way or another. We need words of encouragement. We need someone to believe in us enough to give us a shot at something whether it's a job or just being picked to play on their team.

So the next time you are tempted quickly judge someone or dismiss them, think about the negative impact you may have on that person's life. Then look to see if your first impressions or thoughts about that person may have been wrong.

And with many of these principles... remember you reap what you sow. If you want others to look for the good that you have to offer & treat you in ways that make you feel worthwhile, you need to treat others the same way.

Principles For Life #4

#4 > I will continually work at developing love, happiness and loyalty in my family and acknowledge that no other success can compensate for failure in the home.

I've lost count of the number of people I've known who have sacrificed priceless time with their loved ones to make money or build a career. And the whole time they are neglecting their family... they say they are doing it for their family. I have seen men become extremely successful at their jobs, but in the process, become complete failures as husbands & fathers. This is not right. And further more, it is not necessary. Nor is it worth it in the long run.

What about you? Is your work life & family life out of balance? Do you put your career or your bosses happiness, vision & goals before your family? If so... STOP NOW! You will regret it later. Find ways to work smarter. Look for times to put in any extra work after you have taken care of your loved ones personal (non financial) needs.

Remember this... if you want love, happiness & loyalty from your family, you need to give it to them first.

Principles For Life #3

#3 >  I will always be in a positive frame of mind and convey this feeling to every person that I meet.

My late friend Zig Ziglar often stated that  "your attitude, not your aptitude, determines your altitude"

I agree with Zig on this. It is almost impossible to become a long term success with a negative mindset.

And always remember... we do reap what we sow. If you want people to be positive with you and around you, you need to be positive to and around others.

Principles For Life #2

Principles For Life #2 >  I will forget the mistakes of the past and press on to greater achievements.

I often say that if you learn from your mistakes, you never experience loses, only lessons. So when things don't go the way you planned or hoped, learn what you can from the situation. Then immediately start making positive changes, while making sure you don't make the same mistakes in the future.

My Principles For Life:

For the next several days... I am going to post my Principles For Life. These are core principles that have personally helped me in all areas of my life.

As you read them, please take time to meditate on whether you are maximizing the power of these principles in your own life.

#1 > I will develop myself to the maximum of my potential in all ways.

Let's be blunt, we all have weak spots that need improving upon. Some people spend too much time working and neglect their bodies. Others spend too much time in the gym and neglect their work. And many spend too much time in front of the TV and neglect both their work & bodies. Some find a balance between their work & working out, but neglect their relationships.

What about you? When was the last time you made a list of the areas of your life that you are neglecting to improve in? And once you made that list, what action did you take to start improving those areas?

How Will You Spend Today?

The most successful people in the world, have the same amount of seconds, minutes, hours in a day, that the unsuccessful have.

The difference between the two groups is that the successful people use their time differently. They think and act in ways that will lead them to successful results. They learn to work smarter based on past failures, lessons & success.

If you don't like your current lifestyle, here is a quick way to determine if you are maximizing your time to help positively change your situation.

For the next 7 days.... Before going to bed....

Write down everything you did that day & how much time you spent doing each activity.

Next.. make a list of things you should have done (and @ how long those activities would have taken) instead.

Then determine what activities you should not have wasted your time on, in order to accomplish those activities that would have improved your life.

If you do this in great detail, you will have a great blueprint for not only stop wasting time, but also filling your time with more activities that will help you accomplish your goals.

This is a very simple activity that can make a MAJOR positive impact on your success. So take it very serious. And don't procrastinate. Start today!

Use your emotions to accomplish your goals.

Too many people let fear keep them from becoming more successful in life. They don't attempt new things because they fear what others will say or think about them. They fear failing at their new venture or they fear that being successful at their new venture, will some how have a negative impact on their friendships, relationships etc. Others don't move forward with things they think about doing or achieving because they are afraid of the mental or physical pain that might be involved to accomplish their goal. In others words, they are not willing to pay the price for their success.

If you are not making positive changes to your life because of some sort of fear, here are a few tips that can help.

First.... Know why you really want to accomplish that dream or goal. The more specific you can be, the better.

For example, if your goal is to earn an additional $10,000.00 this year, know exactly what you plan to do with that extra income. If it's to pay off debt, imagine how much better you will feel when all your bills are paid off. Imagine not wondering what you are going to have to do without to make sure you pay your bills on time. Imagine what you could do with the money that is now going toward your bills every month.

If it's to take your dream vacation, imagine the great time you are going to have on that trip. Start collecting pictures & brochures of where you plan on going. Put them in a place where you will see them on a daily basis. Again, the more details the better.

If your goal is to lose weight & get into better shape, imagine how you will look and feel when you achieve your desired goals. Imagine how better the quality of your health and life will be. Think about being able to be more active with your friends & family. Think about how your new looks and energy will impact your job performance and advancement. If that still does not motivate you enough to take action, think about how bad your quality of life might be if you don't achieve your health and fitness goals.

If you do these things properly, you will find yourself becoming a bit emotional and tied to your goal, as you think about your "why". And it is this extra emotional attachment to your goals that gives you a better chance of overcoming your fears to accomplish them.

Who's Your Mentor?

Here is a success key that helped me as a martial artist, actor & other areas of my life.

If you want to accomplish something that you have never accomplished before, find someone who has either already accomplished the same thing you want to accomplish. Or... has a proven track record of helping others do the same. Then follow their mentoring to the best of your abilities.

Sometimes this can be done through books, audio or video products. Other times you may have to pay them for their mentoring. Either way, having the right coach or mentor can greatly speed up your success.

How Do You See Yourself?

If you really want to be more successful in life, you must be able to visualize (mentally see) yourself already having achieved your desired results before you get started. The more you see yourself already achieving your goals, the quicker you will achieve them. Think of visualization as a positive day dream that performs a very specific purpose.

I use positive visualization in all areas of my life. In fact, this was one of my best training secrets when I was fighting. I always visualized myself fighting & beating my opponents before getting into the ring with them. To my mind & body, I had already fought my opponent. This gave me a big advantage when I stepped into the ring because my mind & body acted & reacted as I had visualized.

I never start a new business venture without mentally seeing my end result first. And I always write this end result down as well as the action steps I will take to achieve those results. If you are having trouble achieving or sticking to your written goals, chances are you are not attaching positive visualization to them.

Remember this... where your mind (thoughts) go, your body, emotions & money follows. In other words, if you see yourself failing, you will. If you vividly see yourself winning, you will start winning. If you see yourself poor, you will either stay there or end up there. If you see yourself prosperous, you can achieve prosperity.

So the next time you hear someone say "It's the thought that counts" remember that this is very true. Then make sure that your thoughts are helping you achieve your goals instead of working against you.

If I Can... So Can You!

If you want something bad enough, know why you want it, and are willing to do whatever it takes to get it, you will succeed. My life is living proof of that. And I believe if I can do it, so can you.

I wish you the best of success... Chuck
